#013 Wright Kitty Hawk 1903Wilbur and Orville Wright began experimenting with gliders in 1899. In December of 1903, Satisfied with their results, they attached an engine to their craft. The first successful flight lasted 12 seconds and covered 120 feet. Each subsequent attempt became longer and their final flight that day lasted over a minute while covering 800 feet. Because of this, the Wright brothers have been credited with the first documented powered flight in history. Wilbur and Orville launched a new age, where man can fly. The Wright Flyer was nicknamed 'Kitty Hawk' from the area where the first flight took place. It featured a frontal elevator, rear rudder and 'wing warping' for lateral control.
